LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say an 18-year-old man has been rushed to UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot while working inside a store.
It happened just after 9 p.m. Monday night at the Pantry Fresh Market on Squires Road. Police say three men started firing shots at two clerks behind the counter. One of those clerks was hit in the stomach.
Lexington Police tell us the three men were dressed in hoodies, had bandannas over their faces, wearing camouflage pants, and entered the business without saying a word. Police say the clerks threw items off the counter at the men, and that's when the suspects realized they weren't going to successfully rob the store, according to police. Then they ran out the front door, firing multiple shots.
"The people never demanded anything, never said anything. Once they came in, they were immediately confronted by the clerks," says Lt. Eddie Hart with Lexington Police.
Police say the victim will go into surgery Monday night at UK Hospital. We're told he's currently in serious condition.
Police tell us a witness nearby saw a Camry on scene at the time of the shooting.
