Man airlifted to hospital following Whitley County log truck accident

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man had to be airlifted to UT Medical Center Tuesday afternoon, after a crash involving a log truck.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Highway 26 near Whitley Elementary, near Rockholds around 4:30 p.m.

Whitley County Sheriff's Department tells WKYT calls had come in to 911, complaining of a reckless driver heading south on Highway 26. The callers voiced concern the driver of the log truck, may be under the influence. About five minutes later, deputies say the truck crashed, running off the roadway, and into a culvert.

The older model log truck's front end and driver's compartment were badly damaged in the crash. We're told it wasn't a company truck, and was a personal farm vehicle driven by Daniel Carr, 57. The truck wasn't loaded at the time of the crash.

Officials do believe alcohol is a contributing factor to the crash. Charges could be pending on Carr, following medical clearance.
