Lexington Police seize $16,000 worth of cigarettes in fraud ring

Nine people have been arrested, after an investigation by Lexington Division of Police Financial Crimes Unit, the U.S. Secret Service, and Nicholasville Police, regarding a fraud ring.

Lexington Police say Tuesday, the nine suspects were arrested at the Athens Boonsboro Road Econo Lodge. Cash and more than 68,000 fraudulently-acquired cigarettes, valued at more than $16,000 was seized.

The suspects are from Atlanta, Georgia, and used cloned credit cards to buy the cigarettes, according to Lexington Police.

Vante Shepherd, Keon Johnson, Eric Muhammad, Dejuan David, Omar J. Fandino, Lateef Izuagbe, Deangelo Canter, Benson Brune and Justin Williams are facing charges including theft by deception, criminal possession of a forged instrument, and criminal syndicte charges.
