BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - An investigation is underway after a 2-year-old girl was found alone, cold and wet, and outside in freezing temperatures.

Kentucky State Police and Child Protective Services are at an apartment complex on Main Street in Millersburg. We're told a neighbor called 911 when they heard the child crying.

KSP tells us a neighbor picked up the girl, who was in a wet diaper, and tried to knock on the door where she lives, but no one answered. They say the neighbor took the child back to their house to warm her up, and police were able to find the child's mother. They say it appears the girl left the house on her own while her mother and the mother's boyfriend were asleep, and couldn't get back in.

Police say the mother and her boyfriend aren't facing any charges. Workers with social services are looking into the situation. They say the girl was not hurt.
