Clay County man found dead in burned home

MANCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - A southeast Kentucky man is dead and State Police investigators are calling the fire at the home where he was found an arson.

The fire started on Friday night at a home on Rocky Branch Road in Manchester.

Inside that home, state police investigators found the body of Mickey Henson, 30.

"He lived here in this house about 6 months. I'm not sure what happened, his family lived here, he was a good boy," said Marshal Smith, a friend of Henson's. "It really got to me. Mickey, I knew him all my life."

When detectives arrived on scene they determined the cause of the fire was arson. Kentucky State Police have since launched an investigation into Henson's death.

Henson's neighbor tells WKYT that when he saw Henson's home on fire, he immediately thought it was suspicious because the house right next door also burned about 6 months ago and detectives never figured out who did it.

"It makes me nervous, real nervous. I wonder if they'll find out who did this," Smith says.

Smith says he's not sure why anyone would have had it out for Henson and now he simply hopes that the truth is quickly revealed so he can find out what really happened to the man he considered a friend.

"It's sad that the boy died like this. And he was young, 30 years old," Smith said.

State police troopers tell us an autopsy, performed on Saturday, will help them determine an official cause of death.
