He preys on grocery shoppers when they're not looking! Lexington police say a man has stolen wallets from at least six women shopping at Kroger stores, and then racked up thousands of dollars in charges at their expense. Now Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the man's arrest.

Shoppers beware! In the last two months Lexington Police have worked at least six cases where women were targeted while simply trying to shop.

"So far most of the cases have been from Kroger's", says Detective Eric Hobson with Lexington Police.

Each of those cases involve the same man caught on surveillance cameras at the stores.

"It's a male black in his 30's or 40's. During each incident he's dressed the same. Dark clothing with some type of ball cap or some type of hat on which covers his face", says Detective Eric Hobson.

In one video, you can see what he's doing. At one Kroger location he follows a shopper down the aisle watching her every move. As she reaches to grab some items it appears he reaches into her pocket as she turns, and then quickly leaves the store.

"In almost all the cases he immediately uses the cards before the victims can be notified by their banks", says Detective Eric Hobson.

The man quickly changes into other clothing and goes into other stores nearby and uses the stolen cards to buy gift cards.

"At last count for all the victims was over $10,000 in charges", says Detective Hobson.

They're hoping someone recognizes the man they are looking for and that all shoppers just be cautious.

"There are people out there who will take the opportunity to steal wallets when you least expect it", says Detective Eric Hobson.

Police say they haven't determined if the man is working alone. He may not be from the Lexington area, but he is targeting different shopping locations around town.

Anyone with information is asked to give Crime Stoppers a call at 859-253-2020. You could receive a cash reward if your information leads to an arrest in this case.
