Lexington Police say they broke into a vehicle, stealing an assault rifle and ammunition. Now they are looking for the items taken, as well as the person responsible.

On September 7th, around 11:00 at night, Lexington Police say stole some expensive items from a car parked in front of a home on Pompano Avenue.

"Inside the vehicle the victim had a rifle, a police style rifle," says Detective Rob Sarrantonio.

Authorities say the rifle was taken from the front passenger part of the vehicle. Ammunition for the rifle was also stolen.

"Two 20 round magazines with ammo were stolen along with a Colt AR-15 assault rifle. It's black in color. It is 18 inches long. It was also in a black nylon bag, stolen from the vehicle," says Detective Rob Sarrantonio.

Authorities are hoping you know where the assault rifle may be, or who is responsible for the crime.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. Call Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020. It's a free call and they don't want your name, just your information.
