WKYT Crimetracker: Thief starts fire to cover up burglary

Police hope someone can help find a thief who stole from a home before setting it on fire.

Versailles Police say someone burglarized a Sellers Mill Road home on April 12th, and then set it on fire. Police think the burglar was trying to cover up any evidence.

"The family is pretty distraught. They can't believe, just like us, that someone would come in, take their stuff, and set it on fire," said Det. Wes Jones with Versailles Police

Fire crews called police as they were putting the fire out, noticing a TV had been removed from the wall and other items were disturbed. They also say the fire was started in the middle of the living room, making it suspicious to them.

Now, the family is out of a home, and missing everything from electronics to jewelry and firearms.

"If anybody has any information, if they could help lead us further into the investigation, that's what we're hoping for," said Det. Jones.

Anyone with information can contact Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020 or 1-877-970-2020. You can also leave tips on-line.
