Investigators looking into string of fires in Whitley County

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Since Sunday, three homes on Stringtown Road in Whitley County have burned down.

The Pleasant View Fire Department had to put a fire on that road for the third straight day Tuesday. Chief Thomas Manning says that means a lot of late nights.

"We are trying to investigate and get the proper cause to see what's going on with this," Chief Manning told WKYT Tuesday.

"It's been crazy the past couple days through here," Latosha Kirkland, who lives on Stringtown Road says.

The first fire was Sunday afternoon. A vacant home was burned to the ground. Then, it was a mobile home next on Monday. Early Tuesday morning, another house caught fire.

"They are terrifying people that live on this street," Kirkland says.

Kirkland has a six-month-old at home and is worried about about the possibility of a fourth house fire, and hopes that if these fires are intentionally set, the people responsible are stopped.

"It scares me. I'm going to my aunts for a few days because I don't want to be on this road to be honest with you," Kirkland goes on to say.

State arson investigators are looking into the cause of these fires. Contact them with any tips. No injuries have been reported.
