LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Concerned citizens are credited with helping restrain a man suspected of taking a mother and her children on a wild ride and then trying to carjack someone else.

Lexington Police tell WKYT that 31-year-old Joel Searcy was arrested outside the PDQ Market on New Circle Road. When they arrived, people outside the story were holding him down.

The entire ordeal started about an hour earlier when police say the mother and her three children jumped out Searcy's vehicle after she became upset about the way he was driving.

Police say they escaped about Searcy's Durango crashed into a man's truck at North Broadway and West Loudon Avenue in north Lexington.

Antonio Cassell says after his truck was hit, he was alerted to what was going on. "About that time, the Durango came around the side and this lady said, 'help me, help me,'" Cassell told WKYT.

Police then say Searcy eventually abandoned the vehicle and ran to New Circle Road where concerned citizens intervened when they observed him to carjack a driver outside the PDQ Market.

He's facing charges of unlawful imprisonment, robbery, and leaving the scene of an accident.
