Lexington Police warning of phone scam

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are warning about a scammer pretending to work for Kentucky Utilities.

They say, during the past 48 hours, people in Lexington, including business owners, have received calls from the person, who says the victim's account is overdue. They say their electrical service will be cut off. To avoid this, the scammer tells the victim to buy a Green Dot Money Pak Card, and put money on it. Once purchased, the suspect asks for the card number, and the money is transferred to an overseas account.

The Lexington Police Financial Crimes Unit encourages folks to disregard the call. Never give out personal information or bank account information to anyone over the phone.
