Lexington Police warning of phone scam

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are warning about a scam going around.

They say it offers gift cards and other prizes through the phone, aimed at stealing victims' credit card information. Victims say they get the calls from an automated calling system saying they've been randomly selected to win a WalMart gift card, along with other promotional items. The call claims if the victim stays on the line, they will be connected to an operator, who asks for personal information to pay a shipping and handling fee.

The Lexington Police Financial Crimes Unit encourages citizens to disregard this call. As always, never give personal information or credit card information to anyone over the phone or through text message.
