BOYLE COUNTY, Ky.- (WKYT) There are new developments in a triple murder case in Boyle County.

It's been nearly nine months since three people were gunned down inside the ABC Gold Games & More store in Danville.

Now, Barbara Lewis, the mother of one of the victims, has filed a lawsuit against the suspected killer. She told WKYT Wednesday that the lawsuit was to help her grandchildren, including her 9-year-old grandson who saw the shooting.

"We have to worry about what he's going to go through in the future and we just cannot take the chance that we would not have the funds to make sure he gets the help he needs," she said.

"If I had to put myself in his place I'm not sure i could handle it as well, so I don't know what he goes through or how he feels about things and i can't take the chance."

Preacher Kenneth Allen Keith is accused of shooting and killing Michael and Angelea Hockensmith and Daniel Smith, a customer who was also at the Hockensmith's store.

The lawsuit seeks $665,000 in Michael Hockensmith's lost wages and more than $7,000 in funeral costs and other damages for the two children.

The family said the lawsuit won't help bring anyone back, but it will help them recover part of what was lost.

"We cannot pick up our life and put it back together with the kids until we've got some closure on this," she said.

Keith faces the death penalty if he is convicted of the three murders.
He has pleaded not guilty and his being held without bond until his trial.
