TAYLOR COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Investigators have released the names of a Taylor County couple police say died in a murder-suicide.

Police say Paul Sprowles, 38, used a crossbow to kill his girlfriend Karyn Meeks, 39.

It happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday on Finley Ridge Road near Campbellsville. The Taylor County Sheriff's Office says a man called to report his nephew had just shot his girlfriend and himself.

"The first victim was shot with a crossbow," says Taylor County Sheriff Allen Newtown. "(He) then used a shotgun to shoot himself."

Police say the man, his girlfriend and his man's uncle lived there for about six months. We're told there had been trouble there before.

"Had been a conflict going on for awhile. Came to a head today," says Sheriff Newtown.

Police are not released the victims' names. They say one of them has family out-of-state they are still trying to notify.

"The victims will be taken for an autopsy tomorrow," says Sheriff Newtown.

Police did recover the crossbow and shotgun as evidence, but officials said there was little else that could be said about the investigation.

Police interviewed the uncle at the Sheriff's Office. He was not hurt in the shooting.
