Scott Co. man accused of collecting dead mother's benefits

SCOTT CO, Ky. (WKYT) - A federal grand jury has indicted a Scott County man. He's accused of collecting his mother's social security benefits for 29 years after she died.

Investigators say Frederick Clark, of Georgetown, told the Social Security Administration in May that his mother had been living with him and his wife for the last 30 years.

But they say Clark's mother actually died in Florida in August of 1985.

A neighbor told WKYT what she saw.

"Two more cops came in and handed him a piece of paper and started going through his car. I guess they were just there to serve him a warrant and leave. it seemed like I didn't see him for a week or two and then, he just kind of moved out," a neighbor says.

Investigators say if Clark is convicted of illegally collecting benefits, he could receive 10 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.
