CORBIN, Ky. One Eastern Kentucky performer from the the mountain area is getting his chance at stardom, but you may not have heard of him yet.
Zac Hart, a student at Corbin High School, will be performing in New York City for a chance to win Katie Couric's Blackbird Studio Contest on her show, "Katie."
"I started singing almost ever since I could talk," said Hart, "I have a video to prove it. I started singing in front of people when I was 7 in church."
Zac is one of the three singers left in the running for Couric's contest.
He says his dad told him about the contest, so he wrote an essay and then was told he was a finalist via Skype.
"I was excited because I've never been to a place like New York," says Zac, "and to me that's going to be an experience. Win or lose I'm going to New York."
The winner of the contest gets the chance to work with country singer Martina McBride in Nashville. His teachers say they have no doubt the high school student can make it.
"We're not surprised we know that Zac has what it takes to succeed in that business, because he has all the traits of a person that does," said his Drama teacher, Schann Mobley.
Online voting will continue through Friday. To vote for any of the contestants, you can go to http://katiecouric.com/features/vote-what-singer-should-win-katies-blackbird-studio-contest/ .
