Lexington Restaurant Week to return for a 2014 encore

(LEXINGTON, KY) – With Lexington's first Restaurant Week deemed a roaring success, local restaurateurs are wasting no time to announce an encore. The second annual Lexington Restaurant Week will tickle taste buds and pique palates citywide from Thursday July 24 through Saturday August 3, 2014. BB&T Bank has joined as a lead sponsor with the Lexington Herald-Leader and WKYT-TV onboard as media partners to promote the event.

As before, participating restaurants of the ilk of Jonathan's at Gratz Park, Cheapside Bar and Grill, Portofino and Dudley's will offer $25 dinners. Don Wathen, who owns and operates Nick Ryan’s,
along with wife Barbara, observes that Lexington diners enthusiastically embraced Restaurant Week.
"It was like a big Friday night every night from the moment it started to the moment it ended", he said.

Keith Clark, owner of the nearby Gray Goose, concurred. "After 30 years in the restaurant business, this promotion had by far the biggest impact of anything we’ve ever seen. Clark said. "It's a great thing for the city of Lexington". Downtown restaurants weren’t the only ones to benefit: bumps in business were reported all over the city. Art Howard, owner of The Ketch Seafood Grill on Nicholasville Road reported a 20% upturn in business “over our best two weeks ever".

Heath Campbell, President of BB&T Kentucky, commented that Lexington Restaurant Week is a great way to celebrate the city’s thriving, creative culinary scene. "Our tremendous choice of restaurants is one of the many things that make Lexington one of those special places to live. These establishments, old and new, reflect the same spirit of innovation and enterprise that is making our city thrive. We score very high on the delicious scale".

Connie Jo Miller, “Chick in Charge” at Group CJ, the marketing group and driving force behind the 2013 event, predicts food-lovers from far and wide can expect more menus, more fun and more promotion the second time around.

"We're going to take everything to another level in act two, she said. “More restaurants, more variety, new participation from music and arts groups and basically more wow. No matter where you live, you’re going to feel the buzz of Restaurant Week festivities all over town." Group CJ, won top honors from the Kentucky Tourism Industry Association for its launch and promotion of the 2013 event.
