AP Interview: Fletcher Says GM Strike Could Send Wrong Message

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Governor Fletcher says he understands unions' right to strike when they feel they're not getting a fair deal.

However, the governor also says striking workers at a Kentucky General Motors plant may send the wrong message to businesses considering Kentucky as a home.

United Auto Workers representative John Havens says Fletcher has long been an opponent of organized labor.

More than 900 assembly workers at the Bowling Green Corvette plant walked off the job Monday as part of the first nationwide strike against the U.S. auto industry in decades.

Democratic challenger Steve Beshear says he supports the union's right to strike, and counters that it's governor's administration that's sending the wrong message about doing business in Kentucky.

Fletcher has proven once again that he does not care about the poor workers! His comments show where his priorities lie! With the companies, not the workers! He is anti union because he thinks workers should be treated like scum! Look at what he has done to state workers! He treats them like dirt too! Fletcher is all about the rich companies, not the poor working class. I will be so glad when November gets here so we cannot get rid of the likes of him! I say good riddens to bad rubbish! He's a joke and should have never been put into office in the first place! A dog catcher would be a better governor than he has been! He cares nothing for our children or else he would support the working class instead of big business! Furthermore, if he practices medicine like he has run the Commonwealth, I pity his patients! I hope one of them sues him for every dime he has! I hope the citizens of KY run him out of the governor's office! He's one man that I absolutely hate & wish did not exist at all!

toyota is a japanese(edited) power house dont get me wrong, but they will never build a car or truck like gm, the general could buy and take toyota apart if they wanted to.lay off the union ernie,if we didnt have unions keeping companys in line we all would treated like dirt, and cheap labor, because i dont think ive seen the kentucky goverment step in and say hey there company you treat your workers bad we are going to spank you if you keep on doing this, lol ky goverment cant even get illegals out,ohh yeah i forgot ky is for cheap labor so we want to keep the mexicans labor force. unions keep balance people. and dont forget it.

one reason toyota is overtaking GM as the largest auto maker is simply that toyota does have a union.the days of needing a union for fair pay and consisient treatment are over !
