Situation Stinks In South Lexington

If you live in parts of southwest Lexington, you know there's something foul in the air. An unmistakable stench is stinking up neighborhoods around the city's two wastewater treatment plants.

Even though the smelly situation isn't anything new, residents say its getting worse. Many are wondering what is in the water. Plant officials say the same thing that's always been in it, but the hot weather and drought is making an undesirable smell nearly unbearable.

To fight the fumes, officials are trying to suction the smell off with pipes, and spray down waste holding areas with water to keep the odors from wafting. But until the heat backs off and the skies send fresh water. The water will keep smelling the high heavens.

Regarding the West Hickman wastewater plant,,,,,,the odor problems are due to plant capacity and poor management. The city of Lexington has for years ignored the complaints of its citizens and has done nothing to address the issue. Also it does not appear the city has any funds available to have consultants look at the problems and fund the solutions. Instead they duck their heads and claim the weather is the problem. The city of Lexington has also ignored any Home Owner Associations that have tried to take them to task for the problems. It is time for the Fayette County Home Owner Association to take a higher political profile. The FCHOA represents approximately 130 HOA in Fayette County. How many votes could that organization sway in the next elections ? Maybe someone in city hall can figure that out. Mr Newberry,,you might want to put someone on that task.
