Crews Rescue Woman Trapped After Car Went Over Embankment

A woman was rushed to the hospital early Thursday morning after she drove off the Mountain Parkway in Powell County.

Dispatchers tell 27 NEWSFIRST the woman called them after driving off the road and down an embankment. She told dispatchers she fell asleep behind the wheel right around mile marker 33. It happened around three in the morning.

It took emergency crews a little while to find the woman because her car was about twenty feet down an embankment, making it hard to see.

The driver was conscious when she was taken to the hospital. Her name has not yet been released and there is no word on her condition.
