This Year's Forest Fire Season May Be Worst In KY History

We're barely into this year's forest fire season and already firefighters say this could be one of the worst in Kentucky history.

The division of forestry says in just the last day nearly 30 fires broke out across 14 counties.

Jackson County is one of the areas seeing the biggest problems right now.

Several different fires burning there near the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Today is the first full day of the fire season, and already crews across the state are extremely busy fighting dozens of wild fires.

Because it is so dry this year, and with little or no relief in the forecast in terms of rainfall, fire officials say this year could be the one of the worst fire seasons ever.

In Leslie County, several hundred acres are burning in the war branch area.

We've learned at least one person has been injured.

Fire officials also tell us that homes are possibly in danger.

Overall, there are 26 forest fires burning across eastern Kentucky, with 23 of those fires believed to be the work of arsonists.
