It's that time of year again.

Flu shots are being offered around central Kentucky, including Madison County.

The Madison County Health Department will hold its first walk-in flu shot clinic of the season Friday, from 8 a.m. until noon, at its locations in Richmond and Berea.

"It takes about 2 weeks for a person to get full protection from the flu once he or she has taken the vaccine. We are offering flu clinics a little earlier this year so that families can get their shots and develop their immunity before holiday travel ling begins," said Barbara Turner, RN, Deputy Director of Madison County Health Department, in a news release.

The health department has also planned the following clinics:

Saturday, September 25th 10 am - 2pm at Berea Community School
Saturday, October 2nd 10 am - 2pm at Kirksville Elementary School
Saturday, October 9th 10 am - 2 pm at Glenn Marshall Elementary School
Friday, October 22nd 8 am - 11:30 am at Richmond and Berea Health Dept clinics

The health department says the vaccine is also available on other days of the week by appointment at both Richmond and Berea health department clinics.

The cost of the vaccine is $25, or $10 for children who qualify for the income-based Kentucky Vaccine Program.
