The people that live along Tatesbrook drive say it's a very active neighborhood, meaning children's, and pets often play outside. Fortunately on Friday night not many people were witness to a vicious attack that took place.

"I've never seen anything like it," Jacob Davenport, 10, said.
"This pit bull just came up and grabbed cat and killed it, the cat was fighting with it's hinds legs."

Davenport's mother, Sherie Poikus, told Jacob to go into the house then she called police.
Poikus says before police arrived, the owner of the dog, grabbed it and took off in their car.

"Given the amount of children living on this block it could've been much worse," Poikus said."It could have been someone's kid."

Lexington police say less than an hour before responding to this call, they were also involved in a pit bull attack downtown that incident involved two dogs.

My husband and Bichon/ShitZu were attacked last Thursday night by a Pit bull who just about tore the whole neck off my dog. My dog had not done anything to provoke this dog at all and I am sure of that. We were all taking a walk just around the block and the pit bit so far down on my dog that I have had over $1,000 damage done to my dog and then more spent to take my husband to the hospital to receive medical attention. What is wrong with this country? No one wants to take the responsibility for their actions. I am going to take this case just as far as I can go. You people who like Pit bulls should all be put on an island with nothing but pit bulls and then maybe you will be able to tell me how great your pit bulls are. Thanks for letting me vent and remember if you have a story please contact me and especially if you live in the state of Florida.

You are nuts to think only a pit bull will kill a cat. You are very stupid people get your head out of your butts. Its a shame they only print about the bad things pits do and no other breed. There worse breeds out there.

I think in any case of a pet causing damage or bodily harm the owner should be held liable for the actions. I am in no way against the owning of any dog, but do strongly feel (if you cant handle your pet DONT OWN IT).. If the dog has shown an aggresive side such as the killing of another animal then the dog should not be allowed in public were it would be put in a position to harm another animal or person.

I agree that all dogs are capable of killing a cat, If any dog is overly agressive it is not the dogs fault. People really need to educate themselves before passing an opinion on just the things they hear. The news is mostly full of crap anyway, they always put things in a certain way that grabs attention. Not always the truth or how something really happened. Pit Bulls that are raised right are smart, loving dogs. Also it has been like a rule since the beginning of time that most cats and dogs don't get along. One more thing, most dogs respond oddly to small children if they have never been around them. I don't care what breed! so guess what people think before you open your mouth so you don't spread ignorance.

anyone who would think that pits need to be banned, needs to do some major research on the breed. these dogs were not breed to be people aggressive. but through the course of time, idiots have decided to play god and create an animal that makes the owners look tough. if you want to ban the breed, these same idiots will only get their hands on another powerful breed and corrupt them and give them a bad name as well. if you think of a pit as any other dog, you're fine. but once you start bringing out the bad behavior traits, then you have a problem and thats what PEOPLE are wanting from these dogs. come to frankfort on a sunday morning to cove spring park, and you will find THREE BEAUTIFUL PIT BULLS who SOCIALIZE WITH OTHER DOGS without being aggressive or territorial towards strangers and other animals. i have raised my dog to be just as nice as the schaunzer or chihuahua or a lab. its the irresponsible breeders that need to be held accountable. "ban the deed, not the breed!"

And "cutter" last I checked, DMX, Michael Vick, Rachel Ray, Jon Stewart and many more arent't in the LOW INCOME bracket. And they all own pit bulls....I think you need to be educated PERIOD before you make lil ASSumptions like that.

I know that you ANTI PitBull freaks are going on and on and on about the whole being educated thing...But you know something, if you had to deal with the inconsiderate stupid people that have tortured these poor dogs then you would have a completely different outlook on this topic. So take a lil time outta your precious lil life and search "pitbull fighting" go look at the pictures of DEFENSELESS dogs that have all but killed by irresponsible MORONS, like yourself. Heres some help (edited)

"Yet, statistics show that most pit owners are uneducated and in a low-income bracket" I'd like to see these stats you speak of. My gut tells me this is just really your opinion...and you know what they say about opinions! "My sister is almost 60 years old and in a battery operated wheel chair. She was chased by a pit bull the other day and burned rubber getting away from it" I'm sorry but this made me laugh....for one it was truly funny to read. But the reality is unless your sis has a V8 strapped to her wheelchair I don't see her outrunning any dog, regardless of breed!

That's a pretty retarded analogy there Scoob, seriously. And I want to see the video of the dog who couldn't catch a lady in a wheelchair, that would be interesting.
