Paramedic Arrested

A paramedic is facing charges in Boyd County after police say he was transporting a patient while on drugs.

Steven Ray Marcum was arrested in Ashland this morning, after police say they pulled over his ambulance for running two red lights.

He allegedly failed a field sobriety test, then tested positive for drugs.

Marcum now faces a D.U.I. charge, even though it's not alcohol related.

It was a West Virginia private ambulance service in which he was working.

I don't care what you want to be called, just please lay off the meth, crack, bennies, uppers, downers, mary jane and zippie-flippies when you are driving the ambulance.

Thank you for changing the title of your article to say Paramedic instead of Ambulance driver. The correct term is either EMT or Paramedic depending on the level of training we have.

I don't see where anyone called anyone an ambulance driver, so what's up with the comments from Big M & Sam? It clearly states that a PARAMEDIC was arrested. But if you want to go down that route.... it's bad enough to be driven by someone on drugs- what about them "trying" to give you life-saving procedures while on drugs--that's even worse.

This happens more than you think in Kentucky. Random drug tests should be mandatory for all EMT's, and school bus drivers.

I in no way condone this type of activity what-so-ever, but we are EMTS and Paramedics not ambulance drivers.
