Family Living In Filth Indicted

A family accused of living in filth answered to criminal abuse charges on Friday morning.

Police say James Flood, his wife, Jean, and their son, James subjected two children and a 99-year-old man to live in disgusting conditions.

A grand jury indicted all three. They had a not guilty plea entered on their behalf in court on Friday.

Investigators say they found the 99-year-old man, lying in his own waste, locked in a bedroom at the home on Bryan Benson Road in Franklin County. Investigators say the home was filthy and roach infested.

The man found in the home has ben taken to an assisted living facility. The children were removed from the home, but we hear they are now back at the home.

The judge has not set a date for the next hearing for the three defendants.

I just really hope that social services will really follow this case closely and make sure that child is safe and taken care of now. i admire those that help out in bad situations in other countries "but" were living around horror stories right here in ky. so many children need help and the court system needs to do whats best for the child and not so much of going by the books. just keep praying is all that we can do!!

That is another step up for Kentucky's department of child welfare! Send them back no clear case of neglect here is there? LMAO... I can just hear the case worker now... They are not bruised or beat.. There is more then one way to abuse a child and to make it live in this type of filth is one of them. Do you realize how many diseases that a cockroach carries?! Or the contaminated food laying around! Get a grip KY we need to start taking better care of our children and our elderly... It is pretty bad when someone mistreats and animal everyone is up in the air and screaming incarcerate them they are bad people! What about the ones that mistreat our children and elderly.. Seems I can beat a child or ignore the old and it is ok but hang me if I kick my dog for getting into the garbage!

I have a very hard time believing these kids are back there with the parents. Well I just hope they all go to jail and that way they won't be there. I can not even imagine them getting anything less then some time. Does anyone know how the elderly gentleman is now. I pray so much better! These people were animals to him and the kids. They deserve the worse!

were these people so busy that they couldn't clean their house? regardless this is uncalled for. I hope there found guilty , these folks must not have the attributes of self respect, dignity, and morals. even if they were poor there is no excuse. really, how lazy can you be?? if these people were "Check Draw-ers" they had the money to buy garbage bags ,pin sol and a mop. all they to do get there lazy hind ends up off the couch. just another white trash statistic to add to the unbridled spirit of Ky. I just don't get it....

It happens more than you think but finding anyone to step up or step in is almost impossible. Code Enforcement can fine them but what good does that do? Who's going to pay it. If someone tries to go in forcefully to protect them from themselves someone, somewhere cries their "rights" were violated. What about neighbor's rights to not have to live next to that filth? What about a cities rights not to have that blighting their city? Who's rights are worth more others? Until that is answered more will be living in filth. Some people are just so appathetic they don't care how they live. Just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to be dirty, not saying these people are poor but it seems to be a lifestyle some don't mind.
