Lexington Student Found With Weapon At School

A Lexington high school student was arrested after police say he brought a knife to school.

Henry Clay school officials sent a letter home to parents Friday, telling them the junior accused of carrying the pocket knife was taken out of school and now faces felony charges.

I was astonished by the claim that a student in possession of a pocket knife was suspended. KRS 500.080 defines deadly weapons under subsection 4 (C) as other than an ordinary pocket knife. KRS. 527.070 pertains to firearms and deadly weapons as defined as such under the Kentucky Penal Code. An ordinary pocket knife is not a deadly weapon unless used in such a manner to cause death or serious physical injury.
