State Closes Western Kentucky Bridge

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State transportation officials say an interstate bridge in western Kentucky is closed after an inspection found a "possible crack" in a beam.

The bridge spans the Tennessee River on westbound I-24 in Livingston County.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Doug Hogan says additional crews are being brought in do a detailed inspection to determine the extent of the damage. Some 27,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day.

Fletcher had ordered inspections of all Kentucky bridges after a Minnesota bridge collapsed earlier this year.

Westbound I-24 traffic is being detoured at Grand Rivers exit 31 via KY 453 to U.S. 62, across Kentucky Dam and then back to I-24 at exit 27, the Calvert City exit.
