Crews Demolish Leaning Water Tower

The leaning water tower in Jackson County is now a thing of the past. The tower came crashing down on Tuesday morning.

It was built on top of a mine shaft near McKee. The ground underneath started to give way, causing the tower to lean.

Crews had been keeping an eye on it, hoping it would fall on it's own, but no luck. Tuesday morning, demolition crews went to work.

Crews said the tower fell exactly where they'd hoped and no one was injured.

They did shut down highway 421 during the demolition just in case there was flying shrapnel. The next order of business is figuring out what to do with the now useless tower.

Hey Dave, you know what I don't see it really is any of your business how much they spent on it since you don't live here so don't worry about it........Hey c.c. they done the safest thing they could do at the time you didn't see what I seen the ground around the tower and the ground leading up to it was so unsafe the workers couldnot get to it.

guess it was about time to do something with that thing. it has been almost 2 1/2 weeks since that sunday morning. it is real comforting to know that they closed 421 while they knocked it down, after they let us drive by it for 2 weeks while they were hooping it would fall on its own. what would have happened if it had flying shrapnel? i don't guess they really cared!!!!!!!oh well jackson county has made history once again....with a leaning water tower!!!!!!1
