Fire Burns Home & Spreads To The Woods

Fire destroys a home in the Brinkley area of Knott County, and then it spreads to the woods.

Fire officials say burnable items between the house and the forest made the fire more likely to spread and that's something all homeowners should look out for around their property.

Fire gutted a Crimson Road home before it worked its way into the woods behind.

Add firewood and fallen leaves to the combination, and spreading flames have a well-lit path.

No one was home when it started, and the cause is still under investigation.

No matter how or where a fire starts, officials say everyone should take note of what lies in the space between your home and the woods.

Officials say burnable items around this home were about 15 feet from the woods...half the distance they should be.

Firefighters weren't able to save this family's home, but contained the forest fire to less than an acre.

Firefighters were called back to the house around nine Tuesday night, but dispatchers tell us the fire is now out.

Was this is leslie county? there was a very bad fire there today, around the high school, the smoke entered the high and middle schools and a lot of kids had to leave because of breathing problems. It was so bad inside that the fire alarms kept going off.
