Child Killed, Pregnant Mother Hurt In Lee County Crash

BEATTYVILLE, KY -- A Breathitt County woman was seriously injured and her nearly three-year-old toddler son was killed yesterday in a two vehicle crash east of Beattyville in Lee County.

Kentucky State Police say the accident occurred at 4 p.m. on KY Highway 52.

The deceased has been identified as Nathaniel Johnson, son of 35-year old Teresa Johnson of 15 Wolverine Road in Jackson, Ky. The boy's third birthday would have been a week from Monday, Oct. 29. Police say 45-year old Johnny Noble also of Jackson, who was driving the other vehicle, received minor hand injuries. He was treated and released from Kentucky River Medical Center.

Police say Johnson was traveling eastbound and Noble was westbound on Highway 52. The right side wheels on Johnson's car apparently dropped off the highway causing her to lose control. The vehicle slid sideways into the path of Noble's pickup truck. Johnson's vehicle was struck on the passenger side door.

Police say Ms. Johnson was airlifted to U. K. Hospital where a spokesperson said she is listed in serious condition but stable. Nathaniel Johnson was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Noble's address is listed as 8908 Beattyville Road in Jackson.

Police say the mother was wearing her seatbelt and her son was secured by a child restraint at the time of the collision. KSP Trooper Sonny Dunaway and Trooper Starlin Hacker are investigating.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family involved. I hope that NO ONE is blaming themselves for this tragic loss. It was God's decision to take this little one home. He was ready for His newest angel. Sometimes we may not understand why things happen, but we just need to have faith and know that God has these things happen for a reason. God bless this family.

What a terrible thing to happen to a young child. I have a young child myself, and I couldn't imagine something like that happening. My prayers go out to the mother and her family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this tragedy. I cannot begin to imagine something like this happening, but anything is possible. I honestly believe that God has a reason for every action, and Nathaniel is God's newest little angel. We will continue to pray for Teresa and the whole family. I hope that they can find comfort knowing that people out there does care.

My prayers will be with this family during this terrible time and the days to follow. To Dee, please do not assume that the child was not in a car seat. The story above tell you he was in a child restraint, whether he were in the front or the back would not have made a difference. Yes, something will be learned by this terrible accident... this family will learn what is it like to lose a child that they loved dearly. May God hold this family in his loving embrace.
