Midway Accreditation In Question

Some students at Midway College are scratching their heads, after being told that they may not be able to get their teaching certificates.

The college reportedly has lost its accreditation for on-line and accelerated teaching degrees through the School of Career Development. The Educational Professional Standards Board is responsible for accreditation.

An email sent to students last week by the Provost, Dr. Sarah Laws says the college is appealing the ruling and thinks the outcome will be in the students favor.

I agree that the ones who are left to suffer in this situation are the current students in the Teacher Education Program. What a shame for them. However, for those of you whining and complaing about the tuition at Midway (and I agree that it is hefty), you knew the tuition price when you enrolled. Tuition isn't --- or shouldn't be --- the issue here. What is at the heart of this matter is the poor students who have sacrificed time to complete their education. I graduated from the program and feel that I am VERY HIGHLY QUALIFIED compared to new teachers from other schools. I worked my tail off to get where I am. Midway isn't to thank for that, but my hard work is. I sincerely hope that the EPSB rethinks their decision and acts upon the best interest of students who are currently enrolled in the program and give them ample opporutnity to complete their education.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of practices being followed at Midway College which are of questionable ethical standing. After working with some Midway people and hearing the horror stories of college funds paying for grandchildren's laptop computers, trips to Australia, etc, I'd say the employees should certainly be looking for greener pastures because I'm sure the person who has caused this problem is doing just that.

Trust me - you all may vent and you all may rant and rave, but the person responsible for this will remain where she is, as will all the other inept, incompetent folks running the place. Pick up your pride and go somewhere else and consider it an (expensive) lesson learned. It's what I did and it was so much better for me in the long run.

Wow - some pretty harsh words! I must say that I have to unfortunately agree. I have loved Midway College since I began as as a student last year. However, the recent developments have really tarnished that image. I know who the woman is as well that is responsible for this catastrophic failure. Why she has not been reprimanded or made to bear the responsibility is beyond me, and all the other students. Maybe someone will read these posts and see the light. I think it would benefit the college now and in the long-run.

In order for students, faculty and the employees to want to stand strong for Midway College - there needs to be much better leadership. Allowing this woman (as so many have said - we know who she is) to remain in her position, undisciplined - in fact, she has even been made out to be the victim - is preposterous. If she were let go, I think a lot of the students and other Midway supporters would be more willing to back the President and fight this issue. Midway made this mistake - it was not done to them. They failed to correct things that were pointed out 2 YEARS AGO! Rewarding and praising the woman who let this happen is pathetic. Perhaps the trustees or shareholders will make their voices heard.

I do not understand why the person (and we all know who he/she is) responsible for this tremendous failure has not been fired. Allowing him/her to continue in his/her position is an insult to all the students, the faculty, and the employees of Midway College. My opinion of Midway College has completely changed; I would advise no one to attend this "college."

Please give Midway College a chance to correct this - everyone makes mistakes. I believe the college can pull through this.

I am not the least bit surprised. I was cheated by Midway College long before this ever came to light. I don't believe, in my opinion, there is ONE honest person who works there. Charles Roberts is nothing more than a two- faced liar... Jim Roe is a JOKE!!! and the rest of them, are pretty much the same. I begged students to join a lawsuit years ago - instead of just complaining and I was brave enough to stand up to them for all the wrongs - and since none of the complainers would back me up, I was left out in the cold to fight alone. I left and continued my education with a REPUTABLE institution... and I wish that everyone else would have done the same then. Midway has ALWAYS only cared about MONEY - never students. I say it's high time the STUDENTS take control here and DO SOMETHING - do you realize the amount of student loans you are responsible for - even though you're not eligible for a degree now???? Stand up and FIGHT for what's right - or sit back and take it and let Midway win

This is so unbelievable. Midway has deceived us, has taken our money, and we have nothing to show for it. It does look like they will have a lawsuit on their hands. I sure know that I would like to be part of one, because we have been deliberately deceived, and deserve to at least have our tuition back because it is worthless! I am so disappointed. I have worked full-time while taking classes online, and was really looking forward to being a teacher. I guess Midway has ruined that dream for me because I have no other way to do this except for online. Such a disheartening event. Thanks, Midway. Guess all you were after was money. Seems like many people knew that except those of us who wanted to teach!

TO R in Versailles I can SOO understand how you feel..when you have a family it takes sacrifice to attend these classes and make the grades...I feel Midway's attitude towards this whole mess has been HORRIBLE and put as "its OUR problem as students" th only offer made was to allow us to carry 24 hours inspring and summer while completeing 80 hours of observation and do studenteahing in fall...now HOW is tyhat a program meeting the needs of parents and people that work?! ITS NOT!! and it a rip off at their tuition rate--I for one am EKU bound!!!
