Natural Gas Consumers Can Expect To Pay More This Year

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentuckians who use natural gas can expect to pay more this season.

Kentucky Public Service Commission Mark David Goss says consumers are facing a "fairly modest" hike this year.

Goss says natural gas prices have been increasing and aren't expected to decline any time soon. Goss says prices should remain
somewhat stable barring widespread and extremely cold weather.

According to the commission a Kentucky customer who uses 10 cubic feet of gas next month would pay on average of about $128, or an increase of about $12 from a year ago.

Consumers can try to reduce their natural gas bills by doing things such as weatherizing their homes and conserving energy.

Why doesn't the KY PSC allow deregulation of natural gas so there can be competition which will bring down the price? Each utility is a monopoly as it is now.

This is rediculous! We had no hurricanes to close down production, we had a mild winter last year, just a couple of months ago, we were told there was adequate surplus, now this? Go shovel that to someone who believes it!

That's great. Should we bend over now or when winter gets here?

I hate that we have to pay so much just to keep warm! I wonder how much profit the gas company will REALLY see from this hike? My mom always said Columbia Gas was a bunch of "cheater crooks" :o) and I am beginning to agree... Believe me I will add more insulation to pad my home, rather than pay out more money to pad the gas companies' coffers!!!!
