Patterson To Honor Fallen Friends At UK Exhibition Game

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Former Huntington High basketball standout Patrick Patterson was close friends with two Highlander football players who died in an accident on their way back from an end-of-school trip from Florida.

Patterson is now a freshman at Kentucky. He'll remember Bobby Gleason and Chris Withers by wearing their uniform numbers on his shoes tonight when the Wildcats play Pikeville College in an exhibition game.

Patterson says he considered going on the trip to Panama City, Florida, but decided instead to attend summer school at Kentucky.

Gleason and Withers died after the June Tenth crash in Alabama. Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie drove Patterson to Huntington for their funerals at which Patterson served as a pallbearer.
