Bracken County Schools Closed For Cleaning

All schools in a northeastern Kentucky county will be shut down tomorrow because of concern about bed bugs.

Officials at Bracken County Middle School say one of their students has an infestation of the bugs, and as a precaution, all schools will be closed for cleaning.

Buses in the district will also be treated.

We're told only one bed bug was actually found at the middle school.

We also have "Scabies" (which is a body lice) going around in the Leslie County Middle School. All the parents are not being told of this disease. I know for a fact it is because my child had contacted this in the LCMS locker rooms. When it was reported last week, noone seemed to care. They didnt want others to know about it. They said they didnt want to worry the parents with this because of all the staph problems. But I dont agree! It is our right as parents to know things like this. That way every parent can check their kids and get them treated so it wont be passed on and on. It dont only happen to one child in the school. It has to be spreaded more! So do something about this!

This is awful.I hate it for the child...you know it's the parents' fault, but the child will have to deal with all the comments and looks if & when they have to go back to the school. With Myspace and how kids are, this kid will not be able to escape the ridicule no matter where they go.On the same page,I would be freaking out if this happened at my daughter's school,as I'm sure the parents in Bracken Co. are!

I wanted to let your station know that the shools in Russell County have had over 30 confirmed cases of staph and MRSA. They will not close the schools for cleaning, they say the reports are unfounded. I think investigation needs to be done, contact Dr.'s offices ,etc. There are 3-4 teacher that have it, 16 football players, soccer and volleyball members, and also a small cild contracted it from a day care center. Something definitely needs checking into before it becomes an epidemic or someone dies. I would appreciate your help in this matter. Thank you
