A Franklin County man accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl he met online appeared in court today.

22-year-old Gary Smith pleaded not guilty this morning.
Investigators say met the girl on MySpace.com

The Commonwealth's Attorney Office says the two exchanged e-mails and instant messages before meeting for sex.

The crime falls under a new statute that makes it illegal to use a computer to find a victim for a sexual assault.

WHAT IS A 14 YR OLD DOING ON MYSPACE AND WHERE WAS THE PARENT THE WHOLE TIME. I HATE PREDITORS TO DEATH BUT COME ON. NOW DAYS IF YOUR KID IS ON THE COMPUTER- YOU BETTER BE GETTING IN THIER BUSINESS. AND THE 14 YR OLD HAD TO BE LEADING HIM ON IN ORDER FOR HIM TO MEET HER. HOW WOULD HE HAVE KNOWN ANYTHING ABOUT HER? THATS POOR PARENTING ON THE KIDS PARENTS' BEHALF. HOW WAS THAT GIRL RAISED? OBVIOSLY NOT BY A GOOD PARENT.

What is the matter with people these days. Kids are not some kind of play toy that you just use for fun. People like this guy needs to be severly hurt. If he had of gotten the chance he would have done it to this child. They need to make more heavier charges for people like him.
