Beshear Wins Governor's Race

By ROGER ALFORD
Associated Press Writer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Democrat Steve Beshear defeated a scandal-plagued Republican incumbent Tuesday to become governor of Kentucky, pulling off a political comeback 20 years after last holding office.

Beshear, a Lexington attorney who served as lieutenant governor from 1983-87, defeated Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who had been indicted on charges that he rewarded politically connected Republicans with jobs at the expense of Democrats.

Beshear, who served as lieutenant governor from 1983-87, reminded voters about Fletcher's scandal at every opportunity, whether in televised debates, political ads or stump speeches. Beshear made ethics a key issue in the gubernatorial race, saying Fletcher not only broke his campaign promise from four years ago to clean up Frankfort but had actually made a mess of his own.

Well the problems have been in Kentucky for many years. Problems just didn't start with Fletcher and they sure didn't end with him either. The republicans need to quit whining and crying because their crony lost the election. Maybe if he hadn't corrupted the state with lies and and more lies he would've been re-elected. Come on, admit it, it is just as easy to whine as a republican when you lose than it is for a republican to vote a Democrat in office.

I'm just so glad you are one of those who actually do know how to use spell check. Please teach it to those Beshear supporters who don't know how. By the way, it doesn't really matter who you supported; being illiterate is not the fault of any Governor.

Kygrl Location: Lexington , you want to place blame for rising taxes on the Dems? There is NO surplus in the state budget. Ernie has done this with smoke and mirrors like most politicans do. Most Cabinets have been running month to month on a budget put out by Fletcher's team while they rob Peter to pay Paul. They have taken monies out of funds they where not suppose to touch. Beshear is in for a rude awakening if he thinks he is coming into a balanced budget. On a last note, you need to look no further than Washington over the last 7 years to see which party is the one spending this nation into bankrupcy and that would be the free spending Repubs. We now have the largest deficit in this nations history and it will take our childrens childrens children to maybe pay it off. I say maybe because W still has a year to spend billions more in Iraq.

What people don't realize is that Beshear didn't get elected because he was the best man for the job. The fact is he got elected just because he happen to be at the right place at the right time. It's not that he is any better than Fletcher people had just heard so much they wanted a change. If any of us had run we would probably have won against Fletcher just because they wanted someone different. Some seem to forget that this is the same man that served as Lt. Governor several years ago and that didn't go so well did it? I guess at this point all we can do is just to wait and see.

Ya know it doesnt matter whom was elected your taxes would have been raised no matter what. This world that we live in now no matter if you are a Republician or a Democrat isnt going to change anything about you or anyone else we need to stick together not be at each others throats. That why everyone can't get along anymore its all political. I will say though if Fletcher was doing his job then I dont think that Beshear would be sitting in the Governors Mansion right now, so lets see what our new Governor will do. Again our Taxes would have been raised NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!

To all you Democrats out there, I wonder who will get blamed when KY goes wrong, Bush I suppose. You have your man in the seat now; I bet you all get real quiet when he takes us back that much further into the pits and brings KY taxpayers to their knee’s. when he brings in the casino’s and all the money to do good for the state, whom do you think this money will come from, all the poor hard working backs of our taxpayers. How many families will go hungry or sit in the dark to support the gambling habits it will create? It’s no different then to tie a drug addict up and sit cocaine in front of him or building a liquor store next to a drunk’s house. They have no will power the way it is, placing this at our door steps will only make us that much more weak. And then all we will hear is the past Republicans ruined KY. The funny thing is most of you supporters can’t even spell his name right, morons voting for morons that’s a good slogan for Democrats.
