Man Sentenced To 60 Years For Wife's Murder

A Powell County man finds out how long he'll have to spend in prison for killing his wife.

A judge today sentenced Shannon Burgher to 60 years in prison.

But he'll be eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of that sentence.

Prosecutors say Burgher ran his wife Donna off the road then shot her to death.

Last month, a jury found Shannon Burgher guilty of kidnapping and murdering his wife Donna.

The judge followed the jury's recommended sentence.

I think that the sentence wasn't stiff enough. Her life is over, so his should be as well. I'm not saying eye for an eye, I am saying that he should have to spend the rest of his life in prison. He shouldn't be allowed to be eligible for parole because his wife is dead. She doesn't have the opportunity to do anything else in her life, so why should he?

I agree -- utilize the death sentence. For KYLADY .. I commend you for being so strong and commenting. He will be eligible for parole after serving 85% of his time. How sad is that? This is why the crime rate is high because criminals know that if they are caught, that the penalty will not be forever. He will end up scheduling a doctor's appointment and flee like the other guy did from Louisville. It's not the world that is so bad, it is the people who live in it.

I have a sister in prison for murdering her husband.60 years is NOT long enough.Matter of fact,I dont think prison is a place for murderers,if you catch my drift.I'm not saying I dont love my sister,I do.I have to go with my heart's conviction.I wouldn't want someone to be put up with free meals, medical, room and board-rewarded for killing my loved one.I've told my sister that if it would have been her killed by him,I'd want to watch him fry.She got my meaning. What makes these people think they have the right to take another's life?I can not grasp this type of thinking, thank God!I guess that's what seperates the decent humans from the murderers. When someone takes another's life,it doesn't just affect those two people. So many people are hurt by the actions taken by the one.My mother will never be the same.My sister's then 8 year old son is another story.I seriously doubt he'll ever be part of society in a productive way.Forget about the effect it had on my siblings and their families.
