Man In Court A Year After Deadly Car Crash

A 20-year old Lexington man will head to court today, to face a reckless homicide charge.

Police say Joe Shepperson was driving an ice truck, when he ran a red light and slammed into Kathleen Torok's car in October 2006. She died instantly.

Torok was on her way to work at Keeneland, where she was the assistant to the director of racing.

Prosecutors charged Shepperson last month.

why have there been no comments about the safety of the home city ice truck? There are many of these trucks in the system that are not properly fitted with sun visors working lifts brakes that need to be adjusted. Joe was driving with a full load of ice directly into the sun without a sun visor witch is a safety issue.

Could someone tell me why all too often, accidents caused by drunks and/or drug addicts, without insurance, without license go unprosecuted when those of us who although are fortunate to have survived still have to endure lifelong injuries that no one is being made accountable. Certainly, a loss of any life is a tragedy, but what decides which of these types of collisions is punishable?

Cindy......according to an article months ago on this situation. The man charged with reckless homicide....was also found to have drugs in his system, had virtually no sleep from a long night of partying the night before the accident and ran a red light and hit Mrs. Torok's car.....so yes....in this case.....it would be reckless homicide. I hope he goes to jail for a long time!!!

So now any car accident that somebody dies is reckless homicide! Is somebody going to get charged with attempted murder at every accident in Kentucky? Scarey.
