More Than 100 Endangered Bats Killed In Eastern Kentucky Cave

OLIVE HILL, Ky. (AP) - More than 100 federally endangered Indiana bats were found dead at Carter Caves State Resort Park in eastern Kentucky.

State and federal wildlife authorities say vandals went into a cave at Carter Caves State Resort Park near Olive Hill and hit hibernating bats with rocks on two different occasions in late October. Some bats were crushed, while others died after falling into a stream.

Authorities believe the first incident occurred between October 21st and 24th, while the second incident was reported October 27th and may have happened the previous night.

Violations of the Endangered Species Act can result in a maximum penalty of a $100 thousand fine and a year in prison.

REDNECK is the key term. They wouldn't be rednecks if they didn't do stupid crap like this. Of course finding something constructive to do would take them out of the "ignorant redneck" catagory, and they just couldn't handle that.

What a senseless act. Why do a few crazy people want to kill and destroy everything? I sure hope they are found and arrested. I appreciate a great park like carter caves. It was a crual heartless thing to do. Sincerely, Gene Lowe

One day I'd like to visit Carter Caves SP and see these bats. So I'd better get my plans laid out before some moron gets the caves sealed. ----->>>To prevent this from happening in the future, I'd recommend the State Parks start giving IQ tests to rednecks it check to see if they can be released in the park without destroying it !!!
