KY Death Row Inmate Challenges Lethal Injection

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky death row inmate is challenging lethal injection, claiming giving an inmate Valium interferes with the three-drug cocktail.

Gregory L. Wilson also claims that inmates cannot make an intelligent choice between lethal injection and electrocution because the state does not provide enough information about it's protocol for each method to the inmate.

Wilson's challenge is at least the third in Kentucky. The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled arguments in January in the case of his
fellow death row inmates, Ralph S. Baze and Thomas Clyde Bowling, who sued the state claiming the three drugs current used by 36 states violate the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

Wilson was condemned to death on Oct. 31, 1988 in Kenton County
for kidnapping and murdering Deborah Pooley a year earlier. Prosecutors say the 51-year-old Wilson and 53-year-old Brenda Humphrey forced Pooley into the back seat of her car.

Prosecutors say Wilson raped and strangled Pooley while Humphrey drove around.

I agree with Jeff. What we need to do is make them die the same way they killed their victims. Obviously they think what they did is ok, so give it right back to them! This poor woman didn't get a chance to pick how she died, why should he? I just get sicker and sicker thinking about how much these low-life murderers are tolerated. If you ask me, they lost their right to live when they took away someone elses!

I agree with Chris from SE KY. We need to go back to hangings and the firing squad like it was when the Constitution was written. That way no legal eagle could object unless he objects to the Constitution itself! These death row inmate drain taxpayers because their sentence is not carried out immediate. We need immediate execution of sentence in this country! They have their "due process" when they are tried, convicted and sentenced, let's get on with the execution of justice! He didn't care how he killed his victim so it shouldn't matter how he dies, just kill him and get it over with! He needs to have alot of company at the execution...all of those on death row..do it once a month for everyone on death row and end it once and for all! That way we save money, time and resouces! Put all death row imates before a firing squad and let it end there. Give justice to the victims, not the criminals!

I agree with "observer", if we did this to him he would be begging for the cruel and unusually sweet way to die of just going to sleep! Everyone here is right he doesn't even deserve the needle he deserves no more, no less then he gave his victim and that is for every death row inmate. Make justice swift! Oh, wait though maybe if we can get proof he kicked a DOG, beat a CAT, or STARVED some other kind of POOR ANIMAL THEY WOULD HAVE ALREADY KILLED AND BURIED HIS SORRY A**!

As far as what everyone else said about how he should fry, I agree. He did inhumanely rape and murdered Ms. Pooley. One question... are the needles used in lethal injection sterile... because we are worried about them getting an infection because of it. Also, here's a kick... give the pancuronium first. This drug paralyzes the inmate. Then give the potassium, which causes the heart to go into arrhythmias and eventually arrest. The executioners give them sodium pentothal or sodium thiopental renders them unconscious first so they do not feel a thing. Granted, the drug is not a pain killer, but they render them unconscious... poor murderer, can't take the repercussions of his actions...

I see a convicted killer grasping at straws and begging for time he didn't give his victim.

I say we house him a the most posh, well appointed cell at the prison, furnished to his liking, with all of his favorite things.......................except fresh air. Then, when he is just barely cognitive, open the door, which would give him a little more air, take away the item he has shown the most interest in, and reseal the door. That way he just might finally know what it is like to have what is most important to you taken away, and he can greive for it for the rest of his life.

The justice system is a joke, and the criminals know it. It is stupid for people to get to sit on the row for 20 years, being taken care of by the rest of us. Now, as to the 3 drug cocktail, I'm sure he probably took plenty of drugs in his life-what's wrong with a few more? His calling it cruel and unusual punishment is also stupid-he should hang. His victim was the one to suffer cruel and unusual punishment. He is just doing this to put off his death-which he deserves. I say shoot him and get it done.

Good Job Ron {from Pikeville} there is alot of truth to what you said, now if we can get the rest of people to agree there would be alot less crimes and the jails would not be over populated

I think the people who do these terrible things to other people should have to go through exactly the same punishment there victims suffered. Put him in the back of a car and drive around while he is being raped and then strangle him.Let these people know what they do will come back to them. What rights do the victims have???? And what happened to the woman that was driving him around while this took place? Maybe they would think twice before doing these violent crimes if they knew that would also be there death sentence.
