A man is now in jail after police say he sent and received more than 300 messages in one day, to what he believed was a 14-year-old girl.

Investigators say it turns out, 49-year-old Andrew Yates was actually talking to police.

Police say it all started yesterday morning through Craigslist.

Investigators say a man in Nicholasville was trying to sell an auto part, and was contacted by Andrew Yates.

Police say Yates started to make sexual comments.

Police say the seller says he then told Yates he was a 14-year-old girl, in an effort to stop the comments.

However, police say the sexual comments didn't stop.

The seller then went to police, who immediately picked up the texting.

Within hours, police say Yates drove to Nicholasville to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

"Once they searched him, and they searched his vehicle, they did find from on the way to Stanford, to here, he had purchased condoms, which speaks a lot to his intent on the visit," Sgt. Scott Harvey of Nicholasville Police said.

It was when we told neighbors about the arrest that they found out.

"Knew he was funny acting, but never thought he'd be like that," said Rick Miracle, who knew Andrew Yates.

"I got kids and there's kids all up and down this road here. Young kids from ages 8 to 14," says Elvin Spears, a neighbor of Andrew Yates.

Police say they are thankful they were notified about this crime.

"We never would have picked this guy up had the citizen not come forward with what was going on," says Sergeant Scott Harvey.

Yates was lodged in the Jessamine County Detention Center. He denied our request for an interview.

Yates is being held on a $10,000 cash bond. He's expected to appear in court on Monday.

Police say more charges are expected in this case.
