Winchester Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire

The Red Cross is helping a Clark County family who lost everything in an apartment fire this morning.

It broke out at a building on Strode Station Circle, off Fulton Road.

A woman living in the apartment tells 27 NEWSFIRST her 12-year-old daughter was drying clothers in the dryer before school when the fire started.

12-year old Kara Flickinger says she was getting ready for school, when her home filled with smoke and flames.

Kara & her mother say they are grateful to be alive, after firefighters battled a blaze on the first floor of their apartment.

Sabra Flickinger was asleep upstairs when the fire started. Her husband and two other children had already left for the day. Kara woke her mother up, and they were able to get to safety.

Fire crews worked quickly to put out the flames. The damage inside the family of five's home is extensive.

A dog and kitten were rescued, but unfortunatley, another dog & cat perished in the fire.

Three other units in the building had minor smoke damage. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
