12-year old Fairdale boy shot in chest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A 12-year-old boy was rushed into surgery after being shot in the chest. It happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Fairdale community of Jefferson County.

The boy was then rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Police said several other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but the circumstances surrounding it are still under investigation. Police do say it appears the shooting was not self-inflicted.

The handgun believed to be used has been recovered, but there is no word as to who that weapon belonged to.
