Teen Dies Of Injuries Following DUI Crash, Driver Charged

EVARTS, KY -- A 16-year-old Eastern Kentucky boy died Saturday of injuries received in a crash in Harlan County Friday.

Dustin Middleton of Verda died at the University of Kentucky’s Chandler Hospital Saturday afternoon. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 26-year old Phillip Osborne of Evarts.

Kentucky State Police say Osborne was DUI at the time of the crash. Police say Osborne was driving east on Ky 38, overcorrected, crossed the center line and lost control of the car Friday morning. Osborne's vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by 47 year old Connie Peace also of Evarts.

Police charged Osborne with DUI and two counts of first-degree assault. A passenger in Osborne's car was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries.

When are the powers to be going to start hassling alcohol like they have the tobacco. But they won't do that because over half of the lawmakers are drunks! Besides the tobacco industry stop contributing to campgains and the alcohol industry is still big contributors! Smoking kills, but what's the data on how many are killed by alcohol? This man should be charged with manslaughter because he knowingly got behind the wheel and killed someone! But according to the "professionals" he is sick and needs help! HOGWASH! He chose to drink and drive, just as he chooses to drink in the first place! He's not sick. He's made a bad decision! I lived with an alcoholic for 18 years and I know you can stop if you want to because my mother did! She didn't need specialists to help her either. She just made up her mind and did it! Stop babying these drunks and start hassling them the same way you have smokers!
