UK Confirms: Legion Seeks Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky freshman guard Alex Legion informed head coach Billy Gillispie Monday night of his desire to transfer.

“It’s unfortunate and not what I wanted to hear, but I understand,” Gillispie said.

“We met with Alex and his mother Friday, and she informed us of her desire to seek a release for her son. Shortly after that meeting, Alex told me that he still wanted to be a part of our program. He played in the game against North Carolina Saturday and seemed happy when I spoke with him Sunday.”

Gillispie, who spent much of Monday in Louisville at funeral services for former Wildcat greats Ralph Beard and Tommy Kron, found out on the way back to Lexington that Legion had not attended Monday afternoon’s practice. He met with Legion late Monday night, when the player informed Gillispie of his decision to transfer.

“You always hate to lose a valued member of your program, and Alex was definitely that. He has tremendous potential as a player and a student, but most importantly, he is a wonderful young man. We hate to see him leave, but if he can be happier elsewhere then all you can do is wish him the best.”

Legion, a native of Inkster, Mich., has played in all six UK games, starting twice. He has averaged 6.7 points in over 17 minutes per game.

I think that Billy G will turn the program into what BigBlue fans expect. The only advice I would give is to give more praise on the floor and be more tough in practice with the negative side. These kids today are just like society , they do not want to be ridiculed in the public. Pitino has recruited players that will fit his personality. Give more praise when you can Is what Billy G needs to remember being at UK . Kids at Texas A&M are not the same kind of recruits.

Guess what? The world did'nt stop moving for a second . Kid wants to leave? Hold the door for him. If he was on scholarship, make him pay it back. Otherwise THIS IS NOT NEWS!!! Noone with a lick of sense is going to care whether or not some punk kid from Michigan plays a game or not. Keep that in mind. IT'S A GAME. Nothing else.

Legion should not be allowed to come back. Also he should be made to pay any scholarship money back that he has not used. All player should have to when they leave. he thinks he should play first string...let him earn his playing time just like anyone else does. If he lets him come back...he should have to come iback as a walk-on. Not a free ride. I really think he thinks he is too good for the team. he is just a freshman...Think about legion...

Just another spoiled little kid! Players now a days think THEY know it all and recoil when they are put in thier place. All they see is $$$$$$$$$$$$ down the road. Face it boys, chances are you won't play in the NBA just because there are so many players trying to make it to the NBA. Be thankful you are getting a free ride to college. If you were smart, (most of you aren't), you would get your degree and enjoy your college experience before you get out into the real world. After all the coddeliing you have received you are going to be in for a real shock.

Less than 10 games played and people don't think Billy G. will be a good fit for KY? I heard an old lady at Kroger's the other day make this comment; "Kentucky basketball fans want the team to win more games than they actually play." HOW TRUE! You bunch of spoiled babies; same with Legion. By the way, what is it with these players out of Michigan? Mommy's little babies that can't let go of the apron? You fair weathered fans are the same way. As long as the team is winning EVERY game, you guys bleed blue. Once they lose a game, you cry your eyes out and blame everything and everybody, especially the coach. You will never be happy.

Wow, Bull, the Tub is tearing it up in the frozen north, isn't he? Let's see....He's played two legitimate teams in Iowa State (of course, they haven't been a factor since Marcus Fizer or Fred Hoiberg) and Florida State. In those games, he's 1-1. Sure, he hasn't lost to Gardner-Webb, but let's not start with the "we were so wrong" until the cupcake season is over with...

You can't blame the program, second transfer for Legion.Maybe he is just too good for everuone else around him. That is the only problem I see,he has an attitude problem and will probably go to where he can be the ONLY player on the team to make hisself look better. We don't need anyone that doesn't want to be a team player. If this is what he wanted, goodbye and the best of luck in your career.

Lets give the poor boy a chance (Billy G) . Tubby had a good team but when Tubby got to KY it was Rick Pitino's team and after that Tubby couldn't do anything with the team, I'm not saying that Pitino should come back by any means, he shouldnt have left in the first place, I wouldnt have even let him back in the state of KY. Billy G needs support from all of us and we need to give him a chance to see what will happen its not going to happen over night. The University makes the call on if Billy G stays or not--not us fans. Who knows we just might end up being a really good team. Dont let me down Billy G.
