Union Studies ARH Contract Offer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Union officials are studying Appalachian Regional Healthcare's latest contract offer.

ARH submitted the contract proposal late last week. But the hospital system says its offer is contingent on union ratification by today.

Union officials said yesterday they hadn't decided whether to submit the offer for a rank-and-file vote.

The contract proposal includes changes to staffing and scheduling. Union members say those are some of the main strike issues.

About 600 of the 750 registered nurses at ARH hospitals have refused to cross the picket line since the strike began October 1st when the old contract expired.

The hospital system has nine facilities in eastern Kentucky and West Virginia.

I don't think anyone knows the whole truth!!! If that offer would have been taken.. none of us would have had a job. ARH attached a crappy return settlement (which of course was not shown to the community or on the ARH website)offer that stated they would put all of us on a 18 month preferential call back list with no guarantee of call back....So it would be stupid to have taken it.. The contract had a few problems...but with the return settlement attached.....that is why it was voted down. I think there is a chance that ARH and KNA can come to an agreement soon.

Believe me people, if you don't take this offer you will all be out of jobs. They are hiring permanent replacement workers and it is legal. You should have taken the first contract. You have been out their freezing because your leaders are not telling you the truth.
