It only took Paris police a few hours to catch a man accused of snatching a woman's purse.

Police say 31-year-old Aaron Toohey grabbed a woman's purse out of her car as she shopped at Wal-Mart last night.

Now, police are warning other women to be on alert this holiday season.

Paris police say surveillance video from Wal-Mart shows Toohey snatching a woman's purse from her truck.

Police Chief Tim Gray says the suspect walked up to the woman in the parking lot as she was putting items she just bought in the passenger side of her truck. He asked her for the time then walked away. As the victim walked to the driver's side of her truck, the suspect went to the passenger side and opened the door grabbed her purse and ran off.

Chief Gray says people need to be more alert and on guard until they are in the car with the doors locked.

He says thefts like this can happen in minutes and they can happen to anyone.

He suggests keeping your purse on you until you're securely in your car. He also says shopping in groups, instead of alone, makes you less of a target. And he says to remember to never leave your purse in the shopping cart unattended. This warning goes for men too. If your wallet is sticking out of your pocket, Gray says you'll probably become a victim.

He says thefts like this happen all the time, but they're more prevalent this time of year because people are looking for quick money around the holidays.

This is a felony case. Toohey could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

I wish I would have seen this. I had just left the area. I live each day looking to stop this kind of ignorance. It's time to stop slapping these morons on the wrist and reimplement the LAW!!!!!!!!
