Nebraska Mall Shooting Has Kentucky Holiday Shoppers Thinking About Safety

Wednesday's shooting at a mall in Nebraska is on the minds of many holiday shoppers here in the Bluegrass.

Some wonder if such a shooting could happen here.

"We maintain the highest level of security and we're always in constant monitoring to make sure we have the first class and up-to-date methods, and whatever it is we need to do," Carl Landis, of Fayette Mall, said.

Officials at the mall stay busy patrolling 24 hours a day, inside and out. They say it's all to keep shoppers safe.

Many shoppers we talked to Thursday say while the shooting in Nebraska is on their minds, it will not stop them from shopping.

Mall security officials strongly suggest you contact them if you notice any crime or suspicious activity.

ISRA HEADLINES John Lott writes at Fox News: Media Coverage of Mall Shooting Fails to Reveal Mall's Gun-Free-Zone Status The horrible tragedy at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Neb. received a lot of attention Wednesday and Thursday. It should have. Eight people were killed, and five were wounded. A Google news search using the phrase "Omaha Mall Shooting" finds an incredible 2,794 news stories worldwide for the last day. From India and Taiwan to Britain and Austria, there are probably few people in the world who haven’t heard about this tragedy. But despite the massive news coverage, none of the media coverage, at least by 10 a.m. Thursday, mentioned this central fact: Yet another attack occurred in a gun-free zone. Surely, with all the reporters who appear at these crime scenes and seemingly interview virtually everyone there, why didn’t one simply mention the signs that ban guns from the premises? ... I am sure more folks are going to start packing heat whether they have a concealed carry or not. Interesting thing is that this Mall in Nebraska did not allow firearms in the mall. What a shame.

Here's an idea! If we are so scared to shop, why not just celebrate the true meaning of Christmas (the birth of Jesus, in case you don't remember) instead of buying a bunch of garbage that will end up in a yard sale anyway?
