Williams criticizes Beshear for not attending President Obama's recent Kentucky visit

The talk is already turning tough in Kentucky's race for governor.

Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams says he'll stay focused on what sets him apart from Democratic incumbent Governor Steve Beshear.

Williams is also criticizing the governor for not attending the recent visit by President Obama to Fort Campbell.

Beshear attended the Kentucky Oaks that same day.

"When the Commander in Chief of the United States armed forces came to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to honor not only our SEALs, and special ops, and the people that delivered it (the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound), but the 101st Airborne... and he stayed at a horse race instead of going down there," Williams said. "And not because he was worried about the horse race, but because he was worried about the governor's race."

Williams said he would always welcome the president to Kentucky.

You can see the entire interview with David Williams on "Kentucky Newsmakers" Saturday morning at 11 on WKYT.

Meanwhile, Beshear's campaign announced Friday 70 Republicans who are supporting the governor for re-election.

The list includes former Lexington Vice Mayor Mike Scanlon and former Lt. Governor Steve Pence.
