Wrong Way Driver Causes Crash On Busy Lexington Road

A man is fighting for his life after causing a head-on collision, because police say he was driving the wrong way.

It happened around 3:30 Monday afternoon at Man O' War Boulevard and Tates Creek Road.

Police say the driver was heading down the wrong way on Man O' War from Armstrong Mill. He clipped several cars along the way, before hitting a car head-on at the Tates Creek Road intersection.

The driver of that car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the car going the wrong way was taken to UK hospital, where he's said to be in critical condition.

The intersection was closed for some time Monday evening, causing a traffic back-up.

Don't pick on the elderly! What about the two teenage punks who almost killed me seven years ago going the wrong way on I-64 from Frankfort? They went the wrong way for fun..they were playing "chicken" with us, daring us to hit them! They were caught, but didn't get very much punishment for it! So don't pick on the elderly, there are just as many other aged drivers out there, THAT CAN NOT DRIVE either! With that said however, I do believe that EVERYONE should be retested periodically to see if they remember the rules of driving and if they are still able to handle a vehicle! It would not hurt any of us to be retested once in while, perhaps if they did retest us, then there wouldn't be so many accidents! People forget the rules of driving after a while! If they don't pass the retest, then they don't drive until they can pass it! It would be in revenue and perhaps keep some off the roads that shouldn't be on them anyway!

Okay for all you ppl placing the blame on this poor old man, would you feel the same if this were you're father or grandfather? Would you be so quick to judge? He probably got disoriented, but he is fighting for his life because of his mistake. And like I have said before, I work in healthcare, and most accidents we see are from 20 to 40 year olds, because they are talking on their cells. So lets not be so quick to judge, but let's pray for him and his family.

This old man should not have been driving. He clipped several cars before the accident. Did he not notice that? When would he have stopped? People over 65 should not have a license without further testing!

Hey William, if the 81 yr old is competant to be on the road then good for him. It's those like this man who obviously wasn't who could have killed some one. If the 81 yr old isn't compentant enough and needs groceries or needs to get to the doctor, then is it okay to kill a few people on the way just so he can get the things he needs?

Don't hate on the elderly. There are many young people out there who can not drive. They are talking on the cell phones, eating and messing with the radio. I have come to having accidents with young people who are just not paying attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
